Even as the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) has been restricted to only 10 districts in Odisha, the senior police officials are not leaving any stone unturned to combat the extremists which often unleash terror to mark their presence felt. A crucial review meeting, ‘Strategy Conference On Left Wing Extremism’ was held in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Senior officials of Odisha Police from 10 naxal-infested districts attended the meeting. Odisha DGP Sunil Bansal said Director Intelligence, ADG Operations, officials posted in naxal areas including SPs, DIGs are attending the review meeting along with senior officials of Central Agencies.

The focus on to discuss every aspect which needs to be strengthened as 2024 general elections will be held next year, said the senior cop.

“We need to remain cautious during the election period and ensure that the polls are held without any incident. Despite the deployment of forces, the presence of naxals in some pockets is also being felt and putting up posters,” said Bansal.

Bansal further informed that Odisha shares its border with Chhattisgarh and some rebels from either side crossover. “We have been able to dominate due to active cooperation from Chhattisgarh. Today’s conference will focus on finalising strategy and how can we ensure incident-free 2024 election,” Bansal added.
