The low-pressure area formed over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into depression on Friday. Under its effect, several parts of Odisha will experience heavy rainfall for another four days.

As per the prediction by India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Bhubaneswar regional centre, the system will move in the north-west direction and it is likely to cross Puri by tomorrow morning.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal coasts during the next two days.

Meanwhile, IMD has issued orange warning for the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh and Puri for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similarly, yellow warnings have been issued to as many as nine districts.

Moreover, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and along and off North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal coasts during the next 48 hrs.
