The cyclonic circulation over the northeast & adjoining East-central Bay of Bengal now lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood. It extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same area during the next 12 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

As per the IMD, light to moderate rainfall has already occurred at several places in Odisha including over the districts of Coastal and north interior Odisha and at a few places over the districts of south interior Odisha.

Heavy rainfall has already lashed one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, and Malkangiri.

As per the IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in some parts of the state in the coming days. It has also issued an ‘orange warning’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts of Odisha.

Day 1 (Valid up to 8:30 am of 18.08.2023) Orange Warning:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Extremely heavy rainfall(> 20 cm) is predicted at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi.

Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nuapada, Kendrapada, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.

Day 2 (Valid from 8:30 am of 18.08.2023 to 8:30 am of 19.08.2023):

Orange warning:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir and Nuapada.

Yellow warning:

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Khorda, Puri, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.

Day 3 (Valid from 8:30 am of 19.08.2023 to 8:30 am of 20.08.2023):

Yellow warning:

Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh.
