Low pressure likely in 48 hrs; Orange warning for Odisha districts

An orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall to as many as eight districts- Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kendrapara.

Heavy rainfall

The active cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a low pressure in the next 48 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Odisha will experience heavy rainfall till August 27 under the influence of the possible low pressure. The amount of rainfall will reduce on August 27 and 28.

Meanwhile, IMD’s regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar has issued Orange and Yellow warnings to various districts of the State.

The State will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next three days. An orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall to as many as eight districts- Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kendrapara. Some parts of the districts may witness heavy rainfall of 7-20 cm during the period.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been issued for as many as 18 districts in the State.

“Several parts of the State will experience low to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours. One or two places may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during the period. The amount of rainfall will reduce from August 27,” said IMD Bhubaneswar centre director Manorama Mohanty.

“Odisha has so far received 749.4 mm rainfall this year against normal rainfall of 838.8 mm,” said Mohanty.
