Panic gripped the residents in three districts of Odisha after a loud sound similar to that of a bomb explosion was heard on Wednesday morning.

The deafening sound was heard in Jajpur, Bhadrak and Anandapur in Keonjhar districts. People were seen rushing out of their houses after hearing loud noise like bomb explosion.

However, the reason behind the sound is yet to be ascertained.

Some people suspect that the sound might have come from mine areas where heavy explosive items are being used for blasts.

A section of people also attributed the sound to sonic boom of SU-30 MKI that was reportedly airborne from Kalaikunda airbase, Kharagpur.

The National Centre for Seismology hasn’t mentioned anything about earthquake in Odisha. "Today, tremors of earthquake were reported only in Maharashtra. The loud sound in Odisha’s 3 districts is not linked to earthquake," informed IMD Bhubaneswar
