Local residents were seen carrying away items from a container that had washed up on Puri Beach in Odisha. The looted items included candles, food, perfumes, and engine oil. The container had appeared on Penthakata Beach two days ago, but no official action was taken for three days despite the Coast Guard and Customs Department were reportedly informed.

This morning, a crack appeared on one side of the container, and some of its contents spilled into the sea. Following this discovery, locals reportedly began looting the container.

Siddharth Swain, Collector of Puri, stated, “The Coast Guard and Customs Department were informed. Two containers were reported missing, and we suspect this might be one of them. The container held consumable items, and no reports of any hazardous materials have been received so far. The Coast Guard will follow due procedure to handle and open the container. The looting by locals is unacceptable; we will verify the situation and take necessary action.”
