Leopard killed in road accident in Odisha’s Ganjam

A speeding heavy vehicle hit the leopard leaving it critically injured. Some locals spotted the big cat battling for life and informed the Forest department officials.

Leopard killed in road accident in Odisha’s Ganjam

A leopard was killed after being knocked down by an unidentified vehicle near Mujagada village under North Ghumasara forest range in Ganjam district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

According to sources, the mishap took place at around 2 am when the animal aged four to five years was crossing the main road.

A speeding heavy vehicle hit the leopard leaving it critically injured. Some locals spotted the big cat battling for life and informed the Forest department officials.

The Forest department officials and a team of Bhanjanagar police rushed to the spot and offered first aid to the animal. However, the leopard died while being taken to Bhanjanagar veterinary hospital, sources informed.

Meanwhile, the Forest department has launched an investigation into the matter to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of the leopard and the vehicle involved in the mishap.
