Leopard found dead in Odisha’s Rengali Dam

A sub-adult male leopard was found dead in Rengali Dam, Odisha. The cause remains unknown as the probe continues. Deogarh DFO Magar Dhanaji Raoso leads the inquiry.

Leopard spotted while floating on water

A leopard was spotted dead on Thursday with its carcass floating in the reservoir of Rengali Dam. The carcass was spotted in the Nuadihi forest section of the Riamal forest range.

Authorities from the forest department were quick to respond, with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) arriving promptly at the location upon receiving the information.

The cause of the leopard’s death remains undetermined, and an intensive probe is underway.

When contacted, Deogarh DFO Magar Dhanaji Raoso said, “Based on physical measurement that we carried out, we can say it was a sub-adult male leopard.

It was aged around two and a half years. However, the time of death of the animal cannot be ascertained unless a post-mortem report comes in.”

Worth mentioning, a female leopard died on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment for a possible uterine infection at Sambalpur Zoo in the district. The 7-year-old leopardess named Rani succumbed at around 9.13 PM.

Earlier yesterday evening, the leopard had started vomiting, prompting immediate medical attention. Subsequently, she was taken to the zoo hospital and administered injections.

However, her health condition continued to deteriorate, and she began bleeding from the mouth during treatment. Despite the efforts of zoo officials, the leopardess died.
