A pall of gloom descended over Athagarh Assembly constituency in Cuttack after the last queen of Tigiria estate, Rasamanjari Devi passed away on Sunday due to old-age-related ailments. She was 96.

According to sources, her last rites will be performed at the royal crematorium today.

Rasamanjari Devi was the wife of last king of Gadajat regime late Brajaraj Birabar Kshatriya Champatisingh Mohapatra. 

Notably, the queen was elected from Athagarh Assembly Constituency and served as an MLA from 1977 to 1980. She had contested the election on a Janata party ticket.

As soon as the news of the queen’s demise spread in the area, people from all walks of life including politicians visit her house to pay their last respect.

State Animal Resources Development Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain also visited the queen’s residence to pay his tributes.
