Koraput Medical College gets 650-bed boost; Odisha CM Majhi to inaugurate

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to inaugurate a newly constructed 650-bed facility at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the healthcare infrastructure of southern Odisha. Officials said all arrangements for the inauguration have been completed.

The new block is expected to provide a major boost to healthcare services in the region, catering not only to residents of Koraput district but also to patients from nearby districts and the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh.

Currently, the hospital receives thousands of patients daily from within and outside the state. However, the shortage of beds has long been a pressing issue, forcing many patients to travel to Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, or Visakhapatnam for treatment.

With the addition of the new facility, the hospital will be able to provide more advanced medical care locally. Residents hope it will also lead to the appointment of more doctors, filling long-standing vacancies and improving service delivery.

Following the inauguration, CM Majhi will address a public gathering at the Koraput Government College ground, where he is expected to highlight the Odisha government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services in remote and underserved regions.
