Odisha man develops app to ensure employees' safety at workplace
In the wake of the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, a Berhampur youth has developed an app to stop rape and ensure the safety of employees at the workplace. The young talent Chandan Rout from Berhampur has developed an app called ‘Prakrika’ that can help stop rape by quickly sending alerts to nearby people as well as the victim’s friends and family.
Through the app, employers can easily detect the victim’s location and get alert messages if anyone is in danger.
Speaking to OTV about his innovation, Chandan said, “Usually, we use apps to keep the attendance, personal data, finger punching records, and other details of the employees. When the Kolkata incident happened, it struck to us that apart from keeping the daily records of the employees, it is their safety that is more important,” said Chandan Rout.
“So, we integrated geofencing and beacons. The combination of geofencing and beacons helps us in location tracking. A month has passed but the Kolkata Police and CBI are not able to find out what happened that night or the exact location of the crime. If our app was used then it would have been easy to locate all the places the doctor had visited and where the crime took place due to location tracking.”
“The app that we have developed has beacon buttons on the ID card of the employees. Through the ID cards, the admin of their group will understand the victim’s situation due to an alert message. The alert message will immediately help others understand the victim is in problem and will rush to the spot due to location tracking,” he added.
“Our app can easily help stop the assault or other crimes. Our app is both online and offline-based. Through geofencing, we can find out the location of all the employees. It is easy to track how many hours an employee is working, how many hours he/she is in the office or any other place. The whole information will be with the admin,” he further stated.
