Kharagpur DRM suspends pointsman after Bhadrak-Balasore MEMU train entered loop line

 A day after a major tragedy involving a MEMU passenger train was averted by its loco pilot in Odisha, the Kharagpur DRM has suspended a pointsman. Kharagpur DRM suspended the pointsman after conducting an interrogation in connection with the incident.

Moreover, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered in connection with the incident.

It is pertinent to mention here that a tragedy was averted at Nilagiri Road station under Kharagpur division of South Eastern Railway (SER).

It was due to the presence of mind of the loco pilot of the Bhadrak-Balasore MEMU passenger train that lives of several passengers were saved. As per initial reports that came in on Tuesday, the loco pilot noticed the train entering the loop line even as the signal was through for the mainline and applied the brakes immediately.

Sources said that the train was moving at a speed of 7 to 8 kmph when the loco pilot noticed that something was wrong and stopped the train. Though it is still not clear whether it was due to fault in signal or track, a major tragedy was averted on the route.
