The mortal remains of Veteran BJD leader and 10-time MLA V Sugnana Kumari Deo reached Bhubaneswar in a special flight on Saturday evening.

After arrival, the mortal remains were taken to the BJD party office. Several party leaders along with CM Naveen Patnaik paid tributes to Deo.

Later, Deo’s mortal remains were taken to the Odisha Assembly where the speaker and MLAs paid their last respects. Subsequently, the mortal remains were taken to Khallikote. Deo’s last rites will be performed tomorrow at the royal cremation ground in Khallikote.

“She had experience in various fields. At a time when women were not stepping out of their homes, she was breaking all barriers by participating in politics and driving vehicles. She had multiple hobbies like reading and writing. People in Odisha are in shock as we have lost our mother today,” said Kabisuryanagar MLA, Latika Pradhan.

Deo breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai on Saturday. She was 87.
