Kalahandi Medical College named as Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital

Odisha government on Monday named the Government Medical College & Hospital at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi as Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital.

It has been named in honour of the great freedom fighter of Kalahandi district.

Rendo Majhi was a tribal leader and the most prominent freedom fighter from the Kalahandi region. He had suffered a lot while fighting for the cause of the people of that region during the freedom struggle and made supreme sacrifice for the cause.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has already issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) on April 11, 2023 for admission into MBBS course for the academic session 2023-24 at Kalahandi medical college. The college has an approved intake of 100. The medical college will start its operation from the current year. This will increase the number of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals in the State to 11.

Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital has been built at a cost of Rs. 481.06 crore. Sources said, while the construction work of academic and administrative blocks, hostels, and staff quarters for the 100-seat medical college is almost over, the construction work of the academic building is underway and is expected to be completed soon.

The beautification work of the medical college and hospital is almost complete, said sources.
