A high-level meeting was held at the camp office of the Odisha Police DG in Bhubaneswar following the encounter at M Rampur in Kalahandi, which resulted in the killing of three Maoists.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Intelligence, Sanjeev Panda, and Law & Order ADG, Radhakrushna Sharma.

Following the meeting, Odisha DGP, Sunil Bansal said, “It was a successful operation. Three Maoists have been killed in the operation and all the bodies have been recovered. Though their identities are yet to be ascertained, the AK47 recovered from them indicates that they were high-rank members.”

“All our personnel are safe except for a DSP who sustained bullet injuries in the encounter. Though he is out of danger, we will shift him to Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment to ensure a quick recovery,” Bansal added.

called upon the Maoists and their sympathisers to shun violence and join the mainstream.

A fierce encounter broke out between police personnel and the ultras inside Taperenga-Ludengad forest under M. Rampur Police Limits on Tuesday.

The combing operation was launched in the region in view of the week-long Maoist campaign as part of their strategy to regroup in the area.

The anti-Maoist operation assumes significance in the backdrop of the recent naxal attack in Chhattisgarh on April 26 in which 10 District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and a civilian driver were killed.
