As the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency goes to poll on Wednesday, the joy of first-time voters knew no bounds as they exercised their franchise and participated in the electoral process.

While the voting for the bypoll began at 7 am today, voters in large numbers were seen making a beeline at polling booths to cast votes in favour of their favourite candidates.

“As I will be exercising my franchise for the first time, I am quite excited and nervous. I am keen to know how to cast vote using EVM,” said a first-time voter.

“As a student, I consider rising pollution, unemployment and lack of government college in our district are the major issues. I am hopeful, the elected representative will work on these issues,” said another first-time voter.

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made in Jharsuguda to ensure smooth polling. Women voters were welcomed with flowers at the pink booth, while watermelon and sherbet were offered to voters outside the polling booths.

Besides, water was sprinkled on the voters to help them beat the scorching heat.

The district administration has made necessary arrangements for divyang voters. Volunteers have been engaged to carry the divyang voters on wheelchairs to the polling booths.

However, a divyang voter expressed resentment and said, “I have been seeking assistance for an electric vehicle, but all my cries have fallen on deaf ears. If I will not vote, my name will be excluded from the voters’ list. So, I have come down to cast my vote.”
