Eggs and stones were hurled at Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete’s vehicle during an election rally in Niktimal under Laikera block of bypoll-bound Jharsuguda Assembly constituency on Wednesday.

As per reports, Tete along with her supporters was campaigning for party candidate Tankadhar Tripathy. However, there was a heated exchange reportedly between BJP workers and supporters of other political parties at Niktimal. Subsequently, stones and eggs were allegedly hurled at Tete’s vehicle.

After getting the information, Laikera Police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

As per the latest report, Tete visited Laikera Police Station reportedly to file a complaint in connection with the incident.

“While I was giving my speech, BJD workers threw eggs and stones at us. They also hurled abuses. My driver has been hit with a stone. I have come to the police station to lodge a complaint in this regard. Police should provide protection to me. Otherwise, I am afraid that I will not be able to continue the campaign,” Said Tete.

Voting for the bypoll will be held on May 10 and counting of votes will be done on May 13.

The bypoll in Jharsuguda was necessitated by the murder of sitting MLA & Cabinet Minister, Naba Das on January 29, 2023.
