On his ongoing Koraput visit, BJP National Vice-President Baijayant "Jay" Panda on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Rama Kumari Devi, the last queen of Jeypore royal family in Odisha. After offering floral tributes to the departed soul, Panda interacted with members of the royal family.

The last queen of Jeypore royal family, Rama Kumari Devi had passed away on January 2. She was 90.

Rama Kumari Devi was the wife of last King of Jeypore kingdom, Ramakrushna Deo. The king was the adopted son of Maharaj Bikram Dev Verma. “Rama Kumari Devi was quite popular. Today, I paid my tributes to the departed soul during my visit to the town,” said Panda.

The BJP National Vice-President is currently on a two-day visit to Koraput to take stock of the ongoing organisational work by the party.

On Monday, he had attended a series of programmes and interacted with party leaders and karyakartas.

Later in the day today, Panda visited the popular Surya tiffin center at Gaudsahi chhak and interacted with several intellectuals over a cup of tea. While interacting with people, Panda said Laxmikant Panigrahy has now taken his father’s tea stall into 21st century.

Panda also lauded Panigrahy for maintaining proper hygene and promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

“Today, I had my breakfast at the centre which is an example of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the journey from a small tea stall to a hotel. I am amazed to see the overall sanitation and it was an overall good experience to interact with people with an open heart here,” Panda added.
