Jay Panda asserts Chhattisgarh-like win in Odisha, says people want double-engine govt here too

The people of Odisha have fed up with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government and want a double-engine government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here too, said BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda on Tuesday.

Panda said this while visiting Kendrapara with State unit head Manmohan Samal. Panda was there to attend a district core committee meeting and discuss the party’s prospects in five Assembly Constituencies under the district.

Targeting the BJD, Panda said, “I had worked with Biju uncle (Biju Patnaik) from close quarters. He was a family friend. Had he been alive today, he would not have accepted this BJD at all. He (Biju Patnaik) worked for the pride of Odia people for more than 50 years. And as we can see, BJD which is named after Biju Patnaik, could not find an Odia to run the party. Biju babu might not have liked this. Biju Babu was in jail during emergency with BJP leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani. The same kind of movement is currently going on in Odisha. People of Odisha are expecting the same growth for their State which India is getting with the leadership of PM Modi.”

“Those who are in power in Odisha are using money power, administrative power and muscle power to threaten the voters. Even the fissures in BJD are out in the open for everybody to see. The people will tell how much the BJD leaders have kept their promises. How much the violence against women has reduced and how much do they feel safe in the State?” he added.

Asserting BJP’s win in Odisha as it won in Chhattisgarh, Panda said, “The way we won at MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, is because the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which he commands all over the Country. In fact, he is the most popular among all leaders world-wide. And Odisha is no exception. PM Modi exerts a good amount of popularity on the people of Odisha from Kalahandi to Kendrapara and Malkangiri to Mayurbhanj. And Chhattisgarh’s win will definitely have a positive impact on Odisha.”

“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash is PM Modi’s slogan for India. We have won elections in North-East where people were saying BJP can never win an election. Even in Chhattisgarh, where it was said that the BJP had no chance, we won an absolute majority. People of Odisha too will get the Modi model of governance after this election,” he added.

Asked about whether he will fight elections this time from Kendrapara, Panda said, “Party has given me many responsibilities in the recent years. We won in Assam the responsibility of which was entrusted on me. Even the kind of fight we have been giving the AAP in Delhi, is for everybody to see. I have even worked in Chhattisgarh. I am a soldier of BJP and will do whatever the party wants me to do.
