Tension erupted at Nuapatna village under Tigiria police station in Athagarh area as a jatra stage turned almost into a battlefield during a show on Saturday night.

As per reports, jatra was performed on the occasion of ‘Chandan Jatra’ in the village. Some spectators from the front row passed lewd comments to a lady artiste performing an obscene dance nunber during the jatra show on the stage.

Following the development, there was a heated argument between the committee members and spectators. Subsequently, both groups indulged in a clash. They thrashed each other in the process. Some of the spectators also threw chairs to the pandal leaving several injured.

The jatra performance had to be stopped midway following the disturbances, sources informed, adding that, no complaint has been filed in this regard at Tigiria police station so far.

Though Odisha government has banned obscene dance during Jatra and melody programmes, questions are being raised over the lackadaisical attitude and intention of the Nuapatna village jatra committee. As per sources, the committee is trying to hide things by not complaining about the incident at the police station.

On the other hand, Tigiria police station IIC said that they will launch an investigation into the incident based on the viral videos.
