PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Jajpur

Jajpur district had been the apple of the previous BJD government’s eye. It was evident when Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Thursday informed the House that a whopping Rs 3074 crore under Chief Minister-Special Assistance was released for the district between 2021 and 2024.

While replying to a question of MLA Amar Nayak, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said Jajpur district had received Rs 3074 crore from the Chief Minister’s Special Relief Fund between 2021 and 2024. This apart, the district administration had spent Rs 3008 crore.

Despite so much money being pumped into the district, 437 projects have been completed, 255 projects are still in progress and 1037 projects are yet to be started.

The district was so favourite that even though 24 projects were not started in 2021-22, the government had gifted projects worth thousands to the district. When the election was around the corner, the number of grants to the district doubled.

“Have you ever heard so much money being released from the Chief Minister’s Special Fund to a district? What happened with the money? There should be an enquiry?” said Saroj Padhi, BJP MLA.

“Jajpur district is perhaps the district to receive the highest amount of grant. This doesn’t mean that other districts were neglected,” said Biswaranjan Mallick, BJD MLA.

The district had received over Rs 9 crore for the Biraja Temple Project but the work is half-completed.

“The Biraja Temple work is yet to be completed. It has been going on for the last five years. There is no information plaque at the work site. We had sought information under RTI but received nothing,” said Sanjay Singh, a Jajpur resident.

Similarly, NC Autonomous College had received Rs 9 crore. Three years have passed but the building construction work is yet to be finished.
