Ratna Bhandar
From Ratna Bhandar being guarded by serpents to the presence of several hidden chambers filled with treasure, the revered treasure trove of the 12th-century temple is believed to be filled with mysteries.
The Ratna Bhandar houses the Jagannath Temple’s precious jewels and ornaments. The chamber has been the subject of mystery and speculation for many years, with rumours about the presence of hidden treasures and secret passages.
There is a popular belief that there are secret chambers or tunnels inside the treasury. Answering the deepest secret, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan revealed that only a survey of Ratna Bhandar of Puri Jagannath Temple can bring clarity on whether there is any secret chamber or tunnel in the treasury.
“There may be. We have ordered a non-penetrating survey of Ratna Bhandar. Many people have doubts that there may be a secret Ratna Bhandar. We will study it further. The same people doubt that there may be a tunnel. We will conduct a GPR survey to clarify all doubts. ASI will conduct the survey with IIT,” Harichandan said.
He further added, “Survey by the ASI will give us a clear picture of what exactly is inside the Ratna Bhandar. If there are any secret chambers or tunnels, we will find out.”
He also opened up on the allegations of 80kg gold and 200kg silver from ‘Ratna Bhandar’ illegally being transported to Gujarat by a private jet.
“A respected person like Tathagata Satpathy should not make such comments on social media. He should ask pardon to the people of Odisha for his remarks. The entire world knows how the Ratna Bhandar was opened and the valuables were relocated to temporary treasure. We followed all the standard operating procedures. We have all the videography for proof,” he stated.
