BJD leader Bhupinder Singh
Political circles in Odisha are abuzz with speculation over the possible return of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Bhupinder Singh to the Congress Party.
The discussion has gained momentum after Singh was recently dropped from the BJD’s organisational committee, triggering talks about his growing discontent within the party.
Reacting to the situation, Bhupinder Singh himself broke his silence on Saturday, expressing clear dissatisfaction over the developments.
Taking a veiled dig at the party leadership, Singh remarked, “Those in charge of the BJD know why I was removed from the organisational committee.”
Singh’s comment has only added fuel to the speculation about his strained relationship with the party.
Sources close to the development suggest that Singh is upset not just over his removal but also over the lack of structural reforms within the BJD.
“There have been no significant organisational changes in the party. If this continues, it may not bode well for the BJD's future,” Singh stated, echoing a sentiment shared by many political observers.
Talking about public perception, Singh pointed out that people still holds that BJD has failed to emerge as a strong opposition. He also alleged that people are discussing that BJD has always maintained a soft corner for the BJP, even going so far as to aid the BJP during the general elections.
These remarks have further intensified speculation that Singh may be looking for a new political platform, possibly returning to his roots in the Congress.
Adding another layer to the situation, Singh claimed that senior BJD leader Munna Khan is reportedly unhappy with his current role, and other leaders too are dissatisfied despite being assigned key positions. His comments hint at growing internal unrest within the BJD ranks.
What’s more intriguing is that Singh has not denied the possibility of joining Congress again. When asked directly, he responded with a metaphor from cricket:
“Just like good players are sought after in the IPL, political parties always look for leaders who are with the people.”
This ambiguous response has only deepened the mystery surrounding his next political move.
As Odisha inches closer to a crucial political phase, Bhupinder Singh’s future course of action could have notable implications, especially if he decides to align with Congress, a party he was once a key face of in the state.
