There seems to be no let-up in rising snatching incidents in Bhubaneswar with IPS officer Sagarika Nath’s parents becoming the latest victims of the menace. Parents of Nath, who were en route to their residence in Ghatikia area, were reportedly attacked and looted of their valuables late Sunday night.

The parents of the Balasore SP were on their way to their residence at Satya Sai Enclave near AMRI Hospital when two bike-borne miscreants intercepted their car.

The armed miscreants snatched gold chains and money from them. They also attacked Nath's parents when they resisted their loot bid. The miscreants even damaged the car of Nath’s parents and later fled after locals assembled in the area, leaving their bike at the spot.

The matter came to the fore after Nath’s family lodged a written complaint in this connection with Bharatpur police. Swinging into action, the police launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants and recovered a bike from the spot.

The probe team collected the CCTV footage of the area to identify the miscreants.

Worth mentioning, Nath earlier served as Bhubaneswar Traffic DCP and is currently posted as Balasore SP.

The increasing incidents of snatching in Bhubaneswar have become a challenge for the law-enforcing agencies who claim to have started an investigation. A day back, the CCTV footage of two bike-borne miscreants snatching a gold chain from a woman in Vani Vihar had gone viral.

In the video, the woman was seen walking on the road when two miscreants approached her on a bike and sped away after snatching her gold chain. In another similar incident, bike-borne miscreants snatched the gold chain of a woman in the Laxmisagar area.

Though the Commissionerate police is claiming to have intensified patrolling, the rise in the snatching of gold chains, mobiles and purses at knifepoint has now become a cause of concern for people in Bhubaneswar.
