PM Surya Ghar Yojana
In a significant move towards cleaner energy and cost efficiency, households can now effectively eliminate their electricity bills by installing rooftop solar panels. This opportunity is bolstered by massive subsidies offered by both the central and Odisha government.
For those interested, the scheme provides substantial financial assistance, covering costs up to several lakh rupees under Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY). This support reduces the initial investment required for installation to approximately Rs 60,000, making solar energy a viable option for many.
Residents can apply for this subsidy through a straightforward online application or approach designated local authorities for assistance.
Recently Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in India’s renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (OREDA Limited), the state’s nodal agency for renewable energy, to accelerate rooftop solar adoption among residential customers.
At present, Odisha offers up to Rs. 60,000 in subsidies for up to 3 KW rooftop solar adoption, among the highest in India. Along with Rs. 78,000 of Central Government subsidy, the total subsidy available to consumers is up to Rs. 1,38,000 for up to 3 KW rooftop units.
A Tata Power official informed that a consumer first needs to check their power consumption load and apply at the official website- www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. On the portal, there are over 300 vendors who have been empaneled.
The rooftop solar plant will be installed within one month to 45 days time, the official added.
