In a move to further empower women across the state, the Odisha government has extended the interest-free loan scheme for Women Self-Help Group (SHG) members.
According to an official notification issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, the duration of the scheme has been extended for another financial year, till March 31, 2026.
Under this scheme, women belonging to SHGs can avail loans up to Rs 10 lakh without paying any interest. The initiative aims to promote women’s entrepreneurship and self-reliance by reducing the financial burden of borrowing.
Previously, the interest-free loan provision was valid until March 31, 2025. With this new extension, thousands of SHG members across Odisha will continue to benefit from the zero-interest credit, enabling them to start or expand small businesses and contribute to the state’s rural and urban economy.
Under the extended scheme, Women SHGs will be able to avail loans up to Rs 10 lakh without paying any interest, making it easier for them to expand their small businesses, invest in new ventures, and enhance household incomes.
This decision is expected to significantly strengthen the ‘Lakshapati Didi’ initiative, which aims to create women entrepreneurs with annual incomes of Rs 1 lakh or more.
The state government’s decision is seen as part of its ongoing commitment to women-led development and inclusive economic growth.
