Intense heatwave returns to Odisha after brief respite; 11 places above 40 Deg C

A sweltering heatwave has once again enveloped Odisha and will continue for the next few days, following a short-lived relief brought by the pre-monsoon showers. Day temperatures soared above 43 Degrees Celsius on Sunday, with Jharsuguda recording the highest at 43.5 Degrees Celsius.

Hot on its heels are Bolangir at 42.4, Titilagarh at 42.0, and Sambalpur at 41 Degrees Celsius. Overall, eleven cities in the State have temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius.

Sonepur reached 41.3 Degrees Celsius, while Nuapada, Bhawanipatna, Sundargarh, Boudh, and Hirakud are experiencing temperatures of 41, 40.8, 41.8, 41.5, and 41.3 Degrees Celsius respectively.

These soaring temperatures mark a sharp contrast to the refreshing conditions experienced during the recent pre-monsoon showers.
Temperature Forecast: No major change in the Maximum (day) temperature during next three days and a gradual rise by 2-4°C thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in the maximum temperature in Odisha in the coming days.

The IMD also predicted that thunderstorm activities are likely to continue in various parts of Odisha till April 27, 2025. A yellow warning for thunderstorm and lightning has also been issued for some districts along with gusty winds.

Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal.
