Three days after the nation celebrated National Girl Child Day, a couple went incommunicado after admitting their 22-day-old baby girl in Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The hospital authorities lodged a police complaint on Saturday.

According to sources, a couple identified as Prashant Nayak and Mamata Nayak from Nayagarh had admitted their newborn girl to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Later, the baby was referred to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The couple had admitted their baby to Capital Hospital four days ago. Ironically enough, leaving the baby alone in the hospital, they allegedly left the hospital secretly.

When all attempts by the hospital authorities to contact the couple proved futile, they lodged a police complaint in this regard.

When contacted, the director of Capital Hospital, Dr Laxmidhar Sahu said, “A couple from Nayagarh had admitted their newborn baby to SCB Medical College and Hospital. For some reason, it was referred to Capital Hospital. After admitting her, they disappeared. Even though we attempted to contact them on the mobile number they had provided at the time of admission, they are not responding. We have informed the police. The Childline and CWC have also been informed. The baby girl is doing well.”

The infant is undergoing treatment at the SNCU of the hospital.
