Infamous chain snatcher arrested in Bhubaneswar

Bishnu Prasad Jena, an infamous chain snatcher, was arrested by the Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar. He was found with cash, gold ornaments, and a motorcycle. Previously involved in drug peddling, Chandan resumed his criminal activities after being released on bail.

Infamous chain snatcher arrested in Bhubaneswar

The Commissionerate Police arrested the infamous and elusive chain snatcher Bishnu Prasad Jena alias Chandan on Monday.

A special squad of the Commissionerate Police seized Rs 2.01 lakh cash from his possession, apart from 200 gm gold ornaments and a motorcycle.

According to the police, Chandan came from Puri and used to stay in Khordha. In the last two months, he had snatched 14 chains from people. He has 14 cases pending against him at different police stations.

Earlier, Chandan was peddling drugs. He was arrested in connection with brown sugar peddling. 
He came out of jail on bail in February and started snatching chains, informed police. 

Chandan used to move on his bike and target lone persons on the way. After snatching chains and ornaments, he used to vanish from the spot in a jiffy. He also took gold loans after mortgaging the stolen gold ornaments. 

Speaking to OTV, Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda said, "There are 14 cases registered against Chandan in various police stations.  In April and May, he had committed 14 snatchings. Apart from cash, 200 gm of gold ornaments have been seized from him.”
