Incessant rain triggers water logging at Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO heritage site

Tourists visiting Konark Sun Temple, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) heritage site in Puri, had a horrific time as heavy rainfall triggered a massive water logging at the iconic site on Thursday.

The visitors were seen wading through knee-deep water as the entrance of the Sun temple was completely submerged following the downpour.  According to sources, several tourists also sustained injuries as they fell accidentally while walking due to the water logging.

“I have heard about the Konark Temple and I am visiting the site for the first time. But, I am completely disheartened to see the water-logging here. This does not look good at such a prominent historical site,” a tourist said.

A tourist from Gujarat said, “We are facing a lot of hardships. Despite being a heritage site, it is surprising to see no proper drainage system here.”

“This is the fourth time I'm visiting Konark Sun Temple. The government should take necessary steps for a proper drainage system here so that the tourists don’t face any problems,” another tourist said.
