Lord Jagannath will not wear his favourite attire- Gita Govinda Khandua Pata prepared from tussar silk anymore. The Lord will rather put on the special cloth woven from eri silk from now onwards.

After the announcement by the Odisha government in this regard, weavers in Nuapatna village in Cuttack are currently preparing Gita Govinda Khandua Pata from eri silk for the first time.

Earlier, the special attire for the Lord was being prepared after killing tussar worms to collect silk. However, the government has now decided to collect the silk in a new method in which the killing of worms is not required.

In the new method, Gita Govinda Khandua Patas for Lord Jagannath and His siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are being prepared by non-violent means with Eri silk.

The special attires for Holy Trinity are now being prepared at Nuapatna Society No.1. Moreover, Lord Baladev of Kendrapara will be adorned with the special Gita Govinda Khandua Pata on his birthday on Gamha Purnima.

All the weavers of Nuapatna Society No.1 are on cloud nine and feeling divine ecstasy for preparing the special attire of the Holy Trinity. They have expressed their gratitude to the State government for giving them such a great opportunity.
