The people living in panchayats are going to have weather-related information as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed a mobile app titled ‘Panchayat Mausam Seva’.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday inaugurated the IMD’s year-long 150th-anniversary celebrations and launched the mobile app ‘Panchayat Mausam Seva’. With this app, the IMD aims to disseminate weather-related information in 12 languages including Odia to the people living in panchayats.

“Vice President Dhankharji has pointed out how our predictions at the time of cyclones helped prevent the loss of lives and infrastructure. With the launch of a unified mobile app, panchayat-level forecast has now become possible. People in a single touch can see 24 hours’ as well as seven days’ forecast on their mobile phones,” said weather scientist Sanjeev Dwibedy.

It is believed that the app will go a long way in helping people, particularly farmers in panchayats in taking necessary steps to save their crops from rain or cyclone.
