IIT Bhubaneswar PhD scholar dies in freak mishap on campus

A PhD scholar of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar died after a crane deployed in construction work on the campus located on the outskirts of Jatni ran him over on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Abhinandan Panda. He was married and residing in a mess in Jatni.

Panda was reportedly walking home after finishing his class when the crane ran him over.

Following the mishap, the security guard and other staff of the institute rushed him to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for treatment where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The crane operator fled the spot after the accident.

Jatni police has seized the crane and launched a probe to nab the operator.
