Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday unveiled the legendary Dakota aircraft on the birth anniversary of his father and former CM Biju Patnaik, an ace pilot and the harbinger of industrial development in Odisha.

In remembrance of the architect of modern Odisha, an eminent statesman and the son of the soil, CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the iconic Dakota plane for public display at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.

The Dakota plane will shine as the witness to the valour and courage of Biju Babu in the 1.1 acres land where the Dakota plane was displayed for public viewing today as the day is celebrated as 'Biju Jayanti' and the Panchayati Raj Diwas.

The Dakota plane of Biju Babu has a huge ‘Kalinga Airlines’ written on it.

Before inaugurating the iconic plane, CM Naveen Patnaik took to his Twitter handle to pay tributes to his father and wrote, “Tributes to the icon of modern Odisha, great freedom fighter and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik on his birth anniversary. His dream to take Odisha to the pinnacle of development has always been a source of inspiration. Keeping his principles and ideals, we are moving forward towards building a new Odisha.”

Worth mentioning, the Dakota aircraft was recently brought from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to the Odisha capital.
