In a tragic incident, two persons died after being hit by a truck in Sonepur district on Tuesday. Following the mishap, tension flared up at the spot with angry people vandalising a police van.
As per reports, a Hyva knocked down two persons going on a scooter at Sonepur Block Chhak. The two died instantly, leaving local people livid. The deceased were identified as Omprakash Mahakur and his son Rajkumar Mahakur.
After the mishap, the heavy vehicle was trying to flee the spot when it caught fire suddenly, said sources. Later, fire service personnel doused the fire.
On being informed about the accident, police rushed to the spot. With palpable tension prevailing at the spot, a tussle was reported between the police and the public, prompting a mild lathi charge by police to disperse the mob.
As per reports, the van of the Sonepur SDPO was vandalised in the process. A local alleged that though they had sought help from the fire and ambulance services, they were not available immediately. Besides, the police escorted the Hyva instead of taking action against it, he lamented.
