A large quantity of government-supplied medicines were found dumped on the roadside near Bijay Adigandapur under Sanakhemundi block in Ganjam district on Saturday.

According to sources, the discarded medicines range from tablets to syrups, triggering a sense of concern among locals.

Among the medicines, some were found to have expired while others were still within their expiry period between March and April 2025, sources added.

These medicines are part of the free distribution program initiated by the government to benefit the public.

While the reason behind such large-scale disposal of medicines remains unclear, concerned authorities were yet to determine who was responsible for the act and why such valuable resources were discarded in this manner.

No comments from the concerned authorities could be obtained over the matter.

Expressing displeasure,  locals said that such medicines are provided free of cost to people in need, but such kind of wastage deprives people of life-saving drugs.
