Holiday announced for Odisha Colleges and Universities on July 8

The Higher Education Department on Saturday announced that all the colleges, and universities in Odisha shall remain closed on July 8, 2024, on account of the Rath Yatra holiday announced by the State government.

As per the press release from the I&PR department, all the institutions coming under the jurisdiction of the Higher Education department shall remain closed on Monday, July 8th.

Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had announced a two-day holiday as Rath Yatra will be observed for two days this year.

While chairing a high-level meeting to review preparations for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings recently in Puri, Odisha CM Mohan Majhi said that a similar rare two-day festival was last observed in 1971.

Following the decision, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department announced that all the state government offices, as well as Revenue and Magisterial Courts (Executive), shall remain closed on July 8, 2024. 
 
Apart from the government offices and Magisterial Courts, all the banks and other banking institutions will also remain closed.
