Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Satyabrata Sahu on Friday said a review meeting was conducted in view of the forecast for heavy rainfall under the influence of low pressure in Odisha in the coming days.

As per the prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), first western Odisha districts will experience heavy rainfall activities and subsequently, the amount of rainfall will increase in coastal districts till July 26 and 27.

“We have asked district Collectors and administration to remain alert and take all possible measures in view of IMD’s heavy rainfall forecast. The officials have been asked to keep a close watch on vulnerable pockets,” said Sahu.

The SRC further informed that a discussion with Malkangiri Collector was held and so far there is no report of any untoward incident.

“Apart from seven to eight districts, the rainfall deficit situation has eased to a great extent following the recent spell of heavy rainfall. This will help the farmers to go ahead with the agricultural activities,” said Sahu

In view of the scheduled opening of the gates of Hirakud dam, the SRC said that there is no cause for concern as most of the rivers in the state were dry and it will not have any impact.
