Heavy downpour brings chaos to Balasore, roads submerged in Nuasahi
Continuous rain has left Balasore city in distress, with several areas facing waterlogging. Rainwater has been flowing across the Nuasahi road, which connects Balasore city to Remuna, since Friday night. The submerged stretch has caused severe inconvenience to the public, disrupting daily travel.
Local traders have also been badly hit, with rainwater entering shops and damaging goods. Shopkeepers said they were forced to shut down their establishments as customers stayed away due to the waterlogged streets. Business in the locality has almost come to a standstill, leaving traders in deep distress.
Residents pointed out that the Nuasahi road gets submerged every monsoon. The poor drainage system is often blamed, with dirty drain water flooding the road and creating hazardous conditions. According to reports, the local administrative officials have been apprised of the problem every year, yet no permanent solution has been put in place.
Local residents expressed frustration over the recurring issue. One resident said, “This situation occurs every year, and we face similar difficulties. It is dangerous to travel on this road as the dirty water hides potholes and other risks.”
Shopkeepers echoed similar concerns. “People have built houses over the drains, which prevents the water from flowing. This is the main cause of the problem,” a shopkeeper remarked. Many traders complained that their goods are getting ruined by the overflowing drains, forcing them to shut their shops during heavy rains.
The persistent issue of waterlogging in Nuasahi highlights the urgent need for lasting measures to address drainage and prevent residents from suffering year after year.
