Bhubaneswar, the Capital of Odisha, experienced a rise in the Maximum (day) temperature, reaching 40.4 Degrees Celsius, the city’s encounter with this season’s highest temperature, which was reached by 2.30 PM, official sources said on Sunday.
However, the day temperature in Bhubaneswar was recorded at 40.2°C, yesterday.
As predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre, several parts of Odisha also experienced a sudden rise in the Maximum temperatures today.
As per the latest forecast, there will be a further rise in maximum temperature by 2 to 3 Degrees Celsius during the next three days and no large change thereafter.
The Maximum temperature is very likely to be equal to or above 40°C in the isolated pockets of Bhubaneswar, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Nuapada, Khurda, Rourkela, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Boudh, Paralakhemundi, Jajpur, Titilagarh, Balasore, Chandbali, Cuttack, Angul, Baripada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Bhawanipatna, and Bolangir.
Odisha is currently experiencing intense heat, with temperatures reaching new heights in the mid of May. Several parts of the State could witness ‘record-breaking’ heat in the days ahead, the IMD sources forecasted.
“The day temperatures in most parts of Odisha could remain above normal during May. However, in Western Odisha, particularly in Bolangir, Bargarh, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh, the probability of heat is more,” the IMD regional centre head Manorama Mohanty had previously said to OTV.
“On an average, heatwave conditions will persist across Odisha for about a week during this season,” the IMD regional centre head had further said.
