Resentment is brewing among locals for the development works taken up at the Alarnath shrine in Brahmagiri of Puri during the previous BJD government being left halfway through.

As per reports, during the previous government, a special project for Alarnath shrine was decided. Under this project, some development works were also started. Construction works like widening of the temple’s entrance, rainwater drainage system, modernization of Chandan pond, Tulasi Garden, Reception Center and toilet are lying unfinished.

The way the development works have been neglected has irked servitors as well as visitors.

“It is a beautiful place. But it is devoid of a washroom. In an emergency, where we should go? As it is a famous shrine, this minimum facility should be here,” said a female visitor.

“The shrine doesn’t have a toilet facility, drinking water facility and sitting arrangements for visitors to take rest,” said another woman devotee.

“We the servitors as well as the devotees are displeased with the state of the affairs in the temple. The works started months ago have been abandoned,” rued Madhusudan Pujapanda, a servitor.

When contacted, OBCC’s engineer Prabhat Kumar Panigrahi said, “I have directed to speed up the project works. They will be finished soon.”
