The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bolangir allegedly buried a body, which was recovered from the railway track near Kukudahada area, without conducting a post-mortem. The action by the GRP raised questions about the investigation process.

According to sources, one Lalit Jain from the Kantabanji area had gone missing from home on July 13.

Later in the day, the GRP recovered his body which was found lying on the railway track near Kukudahada area. But, surprisingly, the GRP reportedly buried the body without conducting post-mortem or launching an investigation.

On July 14, unaware of the fact, the family members of Jain lodged a missing complaint at the local police station after failing to trace his whereabouts.

Following the complaint, Jain’s body was dug out in the presence of a magistrate. Surprisingly, his body was handed over to the family members without even conducting post-mortem, sources informed.

When asked about the incident, the GRP ASI failed to provide any satisfactory answer and avoided the questions.

“As we have problems in the freezer and the body started to decompose, we buried the body,” said Sitaram Sunani, ASI of Kantabanji GRP.
