In a dramatic turn of events, a newlywed man in the tribal-dominated Kandhamal district landed at his in-laws’ house to take his wife back home who walked out of the marriage over dowry demand.

Devaki Digal had returned to her parental house after her in-laws reportedly demanded a motorcycle in dowry days after the marriage.

As per reports, the groom, Arjun Digal, who hails from Barakia village under Baliguda police station, arrived at his in-laws’ house and admitted his fault.

Arjun tried hard to pacify Devaki by saying that demanding dowry was his fault and that he repents for the incident. He also announced before the members of his in-laws’ house that he wants to take his wife home and wishes to lead a happy and peaceful life with her.

Notably, Devaki’s wedding with Arjun was solemnised as per rituals on June 9. However, in her new home, Devaki was welcomed with a demand for a bike. The development left the newlywed woman shocked and surprised as her husband and in-laws had not put forth any demands before their wedding.

On listening to their demand, Devaki showed unbelievable courage and straight away walked out of the marriage by removing her bangles and mangalsutra (sacred thread) and returned to her paternal home.
