Green energy corridors across state to make Odisha leader in clean, sustainable power

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Green Energy Corridors are being developed across Odisha to enable seamless transmission of renewable energy. By integrating solar and wind power into the state grid, these corridors are key to delivering clean, reliable, and sustainable electricity to every corner of the state, official sources said.

Green Energy Corridor

Odisha has the potential to generate over 200 GW of solar energy—138 GW from ground-mounted systems, 33.5 GW from floating solar on water bodies, and 10 GW from rooftop installations. With solar already contributing 21% of the state’s 2,938 MW renewable energy capacity, Odisha is poised to become a leader in clean, sustainable power, informed energy department.

Establishment Of Green Corridors

Floating Solar Projects

Apart from this, Odisha is also advancing towards a greener future with an ambitious plan to generate 1,000 MW of clean energy through floating solar projects on key reservoirs. An inter-departmental committee is actively finalising GIS maps of Hirakud, Rengali and Upper Indravati, and exploring viable sites in Upper Kolab and Balimela to ensure timely and effective execution.

This initiative not only strengthens Odisha’s clean energy mission but also promotes sustainable use of water resources, boosts the green economy, and supports energy security.

Green Hydrogen Vision

Odisha is also redefining the future of energy with a bold green hydrogen vision, targeting 3–5 MTPA production to power industrial corridors across eastern & southern India. From FSPV and agrivoltaics to RE R&D, energy storage and grid modernization, the state is building a resilient, future-ready ecosystem.

Aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047, Odisha is not merely moving away from fossil fuels, it is forging a clean energy model that is rooted in innovation, inclusiveness and sustainability.

Similarly, the Odisha government is also providing  subsidies for energy-efficient and solar pump sets, helping farmers save power and adopt sustainable farming. This initiative not only reduces the burden of electricity costs on farmers but also contributes to long-term environmental conservation through cleaner energy use in agriculture.
