A goods train engine has reportedly derailed near Boinda in Angul district on Wednesday morning.

According to source, the mishap took place at around 8 am when the engine was en route to Sambalpur from Talcher.

A boulder from a hill fall on the engine causing its derailment, sources informed, adding that, the giant stone fell on the track due to heavy rains in the district.

Luckily, the loco pilot and other staff remained unhurt in the mishap. Meanwhile, train services between Angul and Sambalpur has been affected following the derailment.

On being informed about the incident, railway officials including Sambalpur DRM reached spot to take stock of the situation.

As rain continues to batter Angul, the restoration work may take some time, sources in Railways informed.
