Geological explorations underway in Keonjhar
Following geological explorations, gold deposits have been found in the Adas-Ramapalli region of Deogarh and Gopur-Gajipur region of Keonjhar, Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena informed the Odisha Assembly on Thursday.
Odisha is anticipating significant economic potential with the discovery of gold reserves in these districts.
The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has completed G2 exploration at the Adas-Ramapalli mine, yielding promising results. Moreover, G2 exploration is underway at the Gopur-Gajipur mine, which was started after the G3 level survey indicated potential. This has prompted continued explorations in these regions by the GSI and Odisha’s Directorate of Mines and Geology.
Once the findings are thoroughly evaluated, a detailed report will be submitted by the agencies concerned to the State government. Based on the report, a committee of experts will provide recommendations on the way ahead.
These recent developments were confirmed by Minister Jena in a written statement to the Assembly during its Winter Session today, an official source mentioned.
“From the laboratory test, the percentage of gold can be known. We are hopeful about the presence of gold,” a GSI staff Kartik Puran had previously expressed.
Worth mentioning, Odisha is also a treasure trove of iron ores, manganese, and chromite.
