Former PCC President Jayadev Jena receives death threat
Close on the heels of the robbery at the residence of former Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik, another Congress leader has received a death threat over the phone.
This time an unidentified miscreant has issued a threat to senior Congress leader and former PCC president Jayadev Jena. The caller has demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh, warning that failure to meet this demand would lead to dire consequences.
Jena, a prominent figure in the political sphere, immediately brought the matter to the attention of the Odisha Chief Minister. Apart from this, a formal complaint in connection with the death threat has been lodged at Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

“I was returning after a press conference when I received a call. The caller said that my life was at risk and demanded Rs 50 lakh. The caller also asked me to send Rs 50,000 if there is a problem in arranging so much cash. The caller also threatened to kill me if I failed to pay the money,” alleged Jena.
According to Jena, the caller was talking in Odia over the phone. Reacting promptly to the threat, local police officials have launched an inquiry to trace the call.
Meanwhile, Jena expressed concerns for his safety and the broader implications of such threats in the political landscape.
The police officials are yet to disclose further details about the progress of their investigation.
