Girl trafficking racket busted in Odisha
Kutra police in Sundargarh district on Tuesday busted a racket involved in trafficking women from the area to Rajasthan.
While two minor girls were rescued from Rajasthan, as many as six persons including two from Rajasthan were arrested in this connection.
As per reports, minor girls from poor families in Kutra area were lured on the pretext of jobs and sold in Rajasthan. A girl went missing last year in October.
While Kutra police was carrying out an investigation into the incident, the minor called home some days before and asked her family to rescue her.
After receiving the call from the minor, the family lodged a complaint with the police. Subsequently, a team led by Rajgangpur SDPO Abhisek Panigrahi was formed. The team traced the mobile call during the investigation and rescued the minor in Rajasthan. Another minor girl was also rescued there.
As many as two persons involved in the racket were arrested in Rajasthan. Subsequently, four others from Rourkela were also held.
Further investigation about the racket is currently going on.
“As part of the investigation into the case of a missing girl, we found an entire system of human trafficking. We rescued two minor girls in Rajasthan. As many as six agents- two in Rajasthan and four in Odisha have been arrested in this connection,” said Rajgangpur SDPO Abhisek Panigrahi.
“The minor girls were sold in the price range between Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh. The girls were physically and mentally tortured by the agents. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway,” he added.
