In a unique protest, Gaon Sathi workers prostrated themselves on the road at the lower PMG in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, urging the state government to fulfil their demands. The agitating female Gaon Sathi workers were also seen sweeping the road as a mark of protest.
Hundreds of Gaon Sathi workers have been staging a dharna at the lower PMG for the last six days. They are demanding a monthly allowance of Rs 10,000 and permanent job.
As the government didn’t pay any heed to their demand, the workers devised unique protests to draw the attention of the government.
“They are making us work hard, but not paying in accordance with the nature of the work. So, we have resorted to agitation,” said a protesting worker.
“If the government keeps turning a deaf ear to our demands, what shall we do to earn our livelihood? In the worst case, we may have to sweep roads. So we swept the road today to remind Naveen sir (Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik) that he has been going back on his promises made to us over the last 14 years,” said another agitating Gaon Sathi worker.
