In an unusual incident, several women at Sankarmatha Street under ward No 10 of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district have lodged a police complaint against their neighbour for keeping as many as 30 pet cats.

As per the complaint, one Basanta Biswas Ray has kept around 30 pet cats at his home. As a result, the people of the ward are facing a lot of difficulties due to the cat menace

“Bad smell spreads in the street as the cats roam freely. Guests are scared to visit our houses because of the cats. There is also a possibility of an outbreak of plague like disease,” the FIR registered at Chhatrapur police station read.

The complainants alleged that Biswas Ray's son Debasis misbehaved with them when they complained about the problems they were facing due to the cats.

Irked by the cat menace, the residents also approached Ganjam SP and requested him to take appropriate action against the owner of the pet cats.

Chhatrapur police have registered a case against the owner of the pet cats and started an investigation into the incident. ASI S Khuntia has been entrusted with the investigation.

On the other hand, the owner of the cats defended himself by saying that he was keeping the animals inside his house and nobody should have any problem.
